On August 30, 2019, the “Sustainable Transiting and Living Workshop” in Beijing was hosted by the China Sustainable Transportation Center (SCTC) and supported by the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) and the International Technical Supporting Platform for City Emissions Peaking (ISP-CEP). Attendees included representatives from the Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning and Design, the College of Architecture & Urban Planning from the Beijing University of Technology, the Institute for Transportation & Development Policy (ITDP)、the Innovation Center for Energy and Transportation (iCET), the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).
The workshop was held with themes of “Green Energy and Low Carbon Transport”and “Remodel Human-Oriented Cities Based on Sustainable Transport”. Representatives shared, communicated and discussed the topics of green hubs, vehicle electrification and charging facilities, street design and governance, and green travel. Ms. Liping Kang, the Policy Research Lead of the iCET, delivered a speech under the topic of “Vehicle Electrification Development and Regional Collaboration”. She stated that the energy and environment pressures, as well as the need for vehicle industry revolution, make the development of vehicle electrification inevitable. She also said that, electrification should be coordinated with cities and regions situation, including population and economy, vehicle numbers and road infrastructure conditions, pollution prevention and environment improvement requirements, local vehicle industry and charging infrastructure, and so on. Moreover, because of the huge discrepancy between different regions, solutions addressing respective questions should be proposed actively.
