The Innovation Center for Energy and Transportation (iCET) was invited to attend the China Prosperity Strategic Programme Fund (SPF) Programme Implementers Workshop held by British Consulate General in Guangzhou on July 8th.

The workshop was aimed at guiding sound implementation by grantees of 2015-2016 SPF funding. iCET’s “Developing City Transportation Emission Database and Calculator to Support Urban Transportation Planning” project is aimed at developing city transportation carbon and pollutant emissions calculator for informed transport policy-making through multi-cooperation with local planning departments, transportation research institutions, and UK policy strategy consultancy – E4tech. The need for data-driven decision-making for achieving better air quality as well as the need for more advanced and cleaner transport solutions in Chinese cities, are making this project very important at this point in time. SPF fund will support iCET’s first stage of the multi-year project, which is focused on the development and piloting of city traffic emissions calculator for passenger cars in Shenzhen. The project is projected to be expanded to other cities and to include more urban transportation segments in the future, and received co-funding from other organization.

The purpose of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Prosperity Fund is to contribute towards the policy goal of creating the conditions for global growth. In China, the fund is known as the China Prosperity Strategic Programme Fund (SPF) programme. The programme has several strands, including financial sector reform, structural reform, business environmental and trade, energy security, low carbon/climate change and green investment, etc. Of which, low carbon and climate change programme get support from NDRC. The purpose is to do research on low carbon development policy option and developing tools, through communication and cooperation of China and UK, together with international policy experts and think tank.
